The new generation Santa Fe is produced in Montreal, Alabama, a city with national parks and ski resorts, and is America's second oldest city and a popular tourist destination. Hyundai named it after the city, hoping it will accompany its owners through cities and countryside. Since it's targeted at the North American market, most of its design and testing were done in the US, catering to American tastes with its rugged exterior and powerful engine, making it an instant hit in North America. If early imitation was merely quantitative change, then in recent years, Korean cars have evolved from accumulating imitation to achieving a qualitative leap in independent design. Korean cars have always insisted on affordable prices and substantial features, and the Santa Fe is no exception. In terms of safety features, the new Santa Fe is equipped with eight airbags (two of which are side curtain airbags), and in addition to ABS and EBD, it adds ESP electronic stability system and traction control, features not found in many competing models in this price range.
